A Turn About the New Town: Walking TourFestival
19 May 11:00 - 17:00
Reimagine Glenrothes with this specially designed walking tour led by historian Diane Watters.
Whether you’ve lived in the town for all of its 70 years or you’re just visiting for the day, Diane’s interactive tour takes you to various locations to learn more of the story of Fife’s New Town.
Taking in St Columba’s and St Paul’s and St Mary’s Churches as well as modernist housing and more, Diane challenges negative views of the town, explaining how this urban centre emerged from rural land, how Scotland’s New Towns have developed across 7 decades, and what the future might hold for them.
Meet at 10.45am in the Rothes Halls. Suitable for all ages — please dress for the weather!
Diane is an architectural historian at Historic Environment Scotland and teaches at the The University of Edinburgh.
