Manipulate Visual Theatre Festival 2018Festival
24 January 10:00 - 13:00
Returning for its eleventh year, the festival will be presented in leading venues across Scotland and England including the Traverse Theatre, the Tron Theatre, Theatre Royal Dumfries, The Gulbenkian, Norwich Puppet Theatre and the Boo. We are pleased to collaborate with the Institut Français d'Ecosse to highlight the work of four acclaimed French ensembles throughout the festival.
In addition to programming dynamic, inspiring work from around the world for our audiences, manipulate also empowers Scottish-based performers to develop compelling puppetry, visual and physical theatre, nurturing their initial creative ideas through our popular and successful Testroom and Snapshots: Artists@Work programmes, this year highlighting the work of seventeen leading and emerging companies and practitioners.
manipulate has always supported the work and creative development of Scottish theatre makers, showcasing their work at all stages of its evolution. We look forward to seeing productions created by Company of Wolves, OCEANALLOVER and Ramesh Meyyappan Productions, as well as a Clown Cabaret Special Edition.
This year for the first time all our animated film screenings will be presented together on the festival’s opening Saturday (27 January), offering an immersive opportunity to enjoy a wide-range of eclectic contemporary animation from around the globe. As well as featuring dynamic abstract visual art in motion, festivals’ retrospectives, puppets to music and an audience-choice feature, we are delighted to welcome appearances and curated programmes by eminent international animators Alberto Vázquez and Ülo Pikkov.
